Today at City Council, the future of 11th Street was brought into question.

Council Member Twila Carter shared that she is receiving constituent communications calling for the removal of the 11th Street bikeway. In response, Council Member Castillo highlighted the extensive community engagement and safety data that support the current design. The Mayor also raised questions about emergency services coordination.

While no decisions have been made, this conversation signals that the 11th Street redesign could be at risk.

The 11th Street corridor has transformed from a high-speed, dangerous roadway into a safer, more welcoming space for walking, biking, and supporting local businesses. This didn’t happen overnight—it came from years of planning, community input, and investment.

Reversing these improvements would not only reduce safety, but also undermine the progress our neighborhood has made.
