The Story
For more than a decade, Araya Artisan Chocolate has been one of Houston’s most celebrated chocolatiers — known for its vibrant bonbons, single-origin cacao, and attention to detail. Founded in 2010 by Venezuelan expats and now led by Giusseida Sicoli, the brand has become synonymous with artistry, quality, and community.
In 2024, Araya announced its newest chapter: a third location in the Houston Heights, opening in a lovingly restored 1924 house at 312 W. 11th Street.
“Opening our doors in the Heights feels like coming home,” says owner Giusseida Sicoli. “We’re eager to become part of the neighborhood, offering not just exceptional chocolates, but a welcoming space for gatherings and shared experiences.”
Designed for the Senses
The new location was designed by Gage Architecture, the creative minds behind Common Bond and 8 Row Flint. Their vision transformed the vintage bungalow into a modern chocolate laboratory, with glass walls that let guests watch the meticulous art of chocolate-making in real time.
Inside, warm textures and light-filled rooms highlight the artistry on display — from jewel-like bonbons to curated gifts and single-origin bars.
“Our goal was to honor the building’s history while celebrating Araya’s craftsmanship,” says Craig Garcia, Founding Principal of Gage Architecture.
What to Try
Each chocolate is handcrafted in small batches using ethically sourced cacao beans and natural sweeteners such as honey and agave.
Signature flavors:
- Strawberry Balsamic
- Spicy Mango Habanero
- Dulce de Leche
- Chai Spice
- Coconut Almond
- Bourbon & Cherry
You’ll also find chocolate-covered fruits and nuts, macaron gift boxes, and vegan options. During the winter season, Araya’s rich hot chocolate — poured from melted Venezuelan cacao — has earned acclaim as one of Houston’s best.
Why It Matters
Araya’s arrival on 11th Street deepens the corridor’s reputation as a walkable, community-centered destination for food, design, and neighborhood life. Its presence in a historic home aligns perfectly with the Heights’ mix of tradition and innovation — and adds a distinctly sweet reason to explore on foot or bike.
